FAQ'S
Below you will find some introductory information related to the services we offer and how we deliver patient care. Please note, every medical aesthetics and dermal therapy client will receive a thorough consultation, full face / dermal assessment and an individualised treatment plan as part of your visit to Luma Aesthetics.
Treatment Information
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) are a governing body for the aesthetics industry, responsible for regulating the advertising, manufacture, import, export and supply of therapeutic goods, in line with the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 (the Act).
In March 2024, the TGA released an updated guidance for advertising of S4 medications. As part of this guidance, the TGA specified that it considers price information for a prescription-only medicine to be an advertisement for that medicine.
As such, we are no longer permitted to disclose price information of any kind publicly, except for during the course of informing a prospective patient, during consultation with one of our Registered Nurses. To book a consultation, where all information will be transparently provided to you, please visit our booking page.
There's several reasons we provide consultation prior to treatment.
Firstly, as you would've noticed on our website we are limited by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) guidelines in how much information we can provide publicly about our services. As qualified Registered Nurses, we provide a medical service in-clinic, in collaboration with our consulting Doctors, and commit to providing care which is both ethical and safe.
Consultation plays a key role in ensuring we understand your unique circumstances including medical history and can provide tailored information. It's important that we explore all of the specifics of your proposed treatment plan including risks, aftercare and expected results, allow time for answering your questions, obtain informed consent and ensure you are completely comfortable prior to receiving treatment.
This is why we allocate a full hour to your appointment.
You'll receive aftercare instructions both verbally and via email if you receive a treatment from us. Part of these instructions covers what to do if you are concerned or have questions after your treatment. In the first instance, please reach out to us to notify us of your concerns - you can call us on 0477 785 467 and leave a message (we have an automated VM system which sends your message to our team), send us an email info@lumaaesthetics.com, or DM us on Instagram. We may ask for photos and usually if there is a concern, we'll request you come in for a complimentary in-person review with a Registered Nurse. As always, in an emergency you should seek urgent medical assistance.
Everyone's tolerance to pain and discomfort varies, but overall the majority of clients find medical aesthetics treatments to be very tolerable. The sensation felt differs depending on what treatment is being performed, and what are of the face is being treated.
Strong topical anaesthetic cream is used for areas of the face that have increased nerve supply and therefore can be more sensitive, such as the lips.
The complexity and abundance of blood supply/vascularity of the face means bruising from cosmetic treatments is relatively common. There are some measures that can be taken to reduce bruising such as avoiding non-essential blood-thinning medication/substances pre and post treatment.
Ultimately though, bruising comes with the territory and as long as there is normal perfusion to the surrounding skin a bruise is not cause for concern.
The particulars of your treatment must be explored and decided upon during a thorough consultation. This is due to the highly personalised nature of cosmetic treatments, related to anatomical variances, age, gender and desired goals.
No. Medical aesthetics treatments are considered non-essential and therefore their effects on pregnant/breastfeeding women have not been widely studied. For this reason, 'blanket ban' approach whilst pregnant/breastfeeding is considered safest.
You may be interested in our Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Skin Package, which offers discounted access to skin treatments and products which are deemed safe alternatives.
You will receive an email post-treatment which provides your customised instructions based on the nature of your treatment.
However, the general guidelines are listed below and if in doubt, please contact us directly for personalised support.
- Stay upright for 4 hours post-treatment
- Do not touch your face unnecessarily and do not apply make-up for the first 24 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of infection
- Avoid any skin/laser treatments for 2 weeks post-treatment
- Avoid any other treatment where direct significant pressure is applied to the face (e.g. face down massages, brow waxing, lash extensions) for 48 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of product migration
- Avoid excessive exercise for 48 hours post-treatment to reduce the risk of infection and decrease risk of prolonged swelling and/or bruising.
- Some swelling, bruising and tenderness is expected, however if you have any concerns it's best to contact us directly.
Results from medical aesthetics treatments depend on the nature of the treatment, as well as your unique response, and this will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
We specialise in achieving natural-looking results and we do this through expert full-face assessment and providing transparent and personalised advice to our patients to ensure your treatment plan is curated for best aesthetic outcomes.
It's important that our patients be open to a conservative, harmonised approach, as over-treating can make you look puffy and unnatural. We pride ourselves on providing our patients with results which are seamless and undetectable once settled.
At Luma, we treat a number of male patients using our advanced skill and anatomical understanding to effectively achieve masculine, natural-looking results.
Well-trained cosmetic nurses understand the differences between male and female facial aesthetics and know how to both feminise and masculinise a face.
In most cases, unfortunately not. If you have deep-set lines, deep folds and poor skin quality secondary to decades of ageing with no history of previous intervention, a treatment plan utilising a number of different modalities is the best approach.
Amazing results are achievable, but patience and commitment is required, especially if you are starting your medical aesthetics and skin health journey later in life.
This is a common misconception - that medical aesthetics are 'one-size-fits-all'. Cosmetic nursing is a specialised field of medicine and requires expertise in individual consultations and facial assessment. Expert knowledge in anatomy, ageing, rheology of treatment products, etc. is what guides a Cosmetic Nurse's treatment recommendations and can be very different from one client to the next. It's always encouraged to share your aesthetic goals with your injector, but trust their expert advice regarding treatment suitability.
We're experts in our field and offering a completely bespoke experience is important to us. Your safety and comfort also relies upon a thorough consultation and appropriate treatment education to ensure you can make informed decisions.
Even for existing patients, we will still start every appointment with a consultation to ensure our treatment plan reflects your current circumstances and aesthetic goals.
This is why we've simplified our online booking process. Select the relevant 'consultation' field when you book (new or existing patient, with or without treatment time allocated) and we will have a detailed discussion upon your arrival to decide on an approach which will produce optimal aesthetic and safety outcomes.
You must be 18 years or over to receive medical aesthetics treatments at Luma Aesthetics.
At Luma, we adore children and with some of us being mothers ourselves, we know firsthand how challenging it can be to find time to fit in your appointments. However, for the safety and comfort of all our patients, we kindly ask that children not accompany you to our clinic. As the procedures we perform require a focused and calm environment, we want to ensure that both you and our staff are able to work without any distractions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and professional atmosphere. If you have any questions or need to reschedule, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Secondary to strict TGA regulations, we are unable to showcase any before and after photos that have been achieved via the administration of Scheduled 4 medications. We can however transparently show our results during your personalised consultation.
BOOKING YOUR APPOINTMENT
Due to TGA and AHPRA guidelines, we are unable to provide detailed and specific information related to our treatments however if you are considering cosmetic treatments, please schedule a consultation where we can discuss your suitability, treatment and product options, risks and pricing.
We can't wait to be a part of your journey towards becoming your most confident self.
